Florida Statewide Initiative

Our efforts to help teachers across the country master America’s founding principles and history.

Improving teacher education across the state of Florida.

As the third most populated state—and one of the fastest growing in the country—the Jack Miller Center has identified Florida as a top priority for our statewide teacher professional development initiatives.

Our goal is to empower K-12 teachers with a deeper understanding of the key texts and ideas of the American political tradition through rigorous study, scholar-led discussions, and practical classroom application workshops. These programs are tailored for Florida teachers, aligning with state standards to help teachers apply what they’ve learned directly to the classroom.

Thanks to a few generous donors, we have been able to offer these programs at no cost to Florida teachers. If you are interested in learning more about our Florida programs, or how to bring one to your community, reach out to our Founding Civics Initiative team.

Our goals by 2026

We have an ambitious strategic plan to reach a record number of teachers across Florida by America’s 250th birthday in 2026 through scholar-led seminars, classroom application sessions, and rigorous study of founding documents and ideas.

Our impact in Florida

In July 2020, JMC kicked off a major initiative in Florida with the Ashbrook Center and Bill of Rights Institute. Through the American Civics and History Initiative, our organizations conducted nearly 200 programs for thousands of teachers across the state in three years.

Building off the success of the American Civics and History Initiative, JMC continues to offer programs across the state, working with a variety of university, nonprofit, and district partners.
