Kinder Institute: “Moderation in America”

 

The Kinder Institute at the University of Missouri, a JMC partner program, will be hosting a lecture from Aurelian Craiutu on “Moderation in America.”

“A preeminent historian of political ideas, whose works emphasize the virtue of political moderation from the early Modern period to the present, Prof. Craiutu will draw on past philosophers and exemplars of political moderation in his talk in order to offer insights for encountering contemporary forms of extremism in American political life.”

Aurelian Craiutu Aurelian Craiutu is a Professor of Political Science at Indiana University in Bloomington. He identifies as a political theorist and historian of political ideas, and is one of the world’s preeminent scholars of political moderation. His two most recent books are A Virtue For Courageous Minds: Moderation in French Political Thought, 1748-1830, and Faces of Moderation: The Art of Balance in an Age of Extremes, which was published by the University of Pennsylvania Press. Dr. Craiutu is currently working on a new book titled Letters to a Young Radical: How to be a Moderate, which is under contract, and to be published in the near future by Cambridge University Press.
