Tacoma, Washington: Wilfred M. McClay Speaks on the American Story

May 17, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Historian Wilfred McClay will be visiting Tacoma, Washington on Wednesday, May 17 to discuss his remarkable book Land of Hope: An Invitation to the Great American Story. Professor McClay is the Victor Davis Hanson Professor of Classical History and Western Civilization at Hillsdale College and a senior scholar of the Jack Miller Center.

The event will be held at the Washington State History Museum, 1911 Pacific Avenue in downtown Tacoma. We will begin with a reception on the Mezzanine at 6:00pm, followed by Professor McClay’s book talk at 7:00pm.

The event is possible thanks to a generous lead sponsorship from Bob and Kathy Spence of Tacoma, with additional support from Charles Diesing. By the way, anyone who donates $50 or more will receive a copy of Bill McClay’s remarkable book. Please be sure to include your address if you donate online ahead of the event.

In addition to Professor McClay’s talk, JMC President Hans Zeiger will share a bit about the work we are doing at the Jack Miller Center for Teaching America’s Founding Principles and History, where Professor McClay is a longtime board member. In short, we are building a movement of scholars, teachers, and citizens like you who seek to pass along the core texts and ideas of the American political tradition to the rising generation.

I hope you will consider joining us for this important event on May 17. Please RSVP at this link: https://www.tfaforms.com/5053878
