Eastern University invites applications in the search for a new dean of the College of Arts and Humanities.

Eastern University is a nationally-recognized Christian university enrolling approximately 7,000 students in a wide array of undergraduate, graduate, professional, and seminary programs. The university’s main campus is located in St. Davids, PA, with many programs also offered online. Eastern’s core values of Faith, Reason, and Justice are woven into all of its educational offerings. Applicants should have a Christian commitment compatible with its mission and be willing to support the mission and vision of the university.

The Dean of the College of Arts & Humanites (CAH) provides direct supervision and strategic leadership for the CAH, and supports the Office of the Provost in selected areas of the University’s academic operation. Reporting to the Provost, the Dean works collaboratively with the faculty, staff, administration, board, and students to achieve the strategic goals of the university and college. By Faculty Handbook policy, this position carries faculty status.

Academic departments with the CAH include: Communication Studies, Dance, English, History, Language & Cultural Studies, Music, Philosophy, and Theatre.

Qualifications

 

  1. Adequate typing skills (minimum 50 words per minute);
  2. at least three years of administrative experience in higher education or evidence of comparable experience;
  3. competence (or ability and willingness to acquire competence) with e-learning tools and software platforms;
  4. competence in Desktop Software (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Email, etc.);
  5. demonstrated commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in teaching, scholarship, service, and administration;
  6. excellent listening, verbal, and written communication skills;
  7. experience working with and in support of diverse populations;
  8. has a solid grasp of the context of higher education and, ideally, of Christian higher education;
  9. proven administrative skills and success;
  10. record of teaching, professional development/scholarly work, and service to warrant faculty rank of at least Associate Professor;
  11. and schedule flexibility for weekend hours and travel.
