CU Boulder: 2020 Summer Program in Western Civilization

Benson Center for the Study of Western Civilization: Summer Institute

 

The Benson Center for the Study of Western Civilization at the University of Colorado invites applicants to a four-week Summer Institute in Boulder. The Institute is open to scholars holding a PhD (or disciplinary equivalent) who are doing research on some topic that falls within the scope of the Center’s 2020-21 theme, Community or Disunity?

Participants will receive a $5000 honorarium, as well as office space and library privileges. The honorarium is intended to cover all travel and business expenses. The Institute shall begin on Monday, June 29, 2020 and conclude on Friday, July 24, 2020. Participants are expected to be in residence in Boulder for all four weeks of the Institute, and to participate in the daily life of the program, which will include both collaborative seminars and social activities.

Applicants may come from any academic field, but must have a research proposal that relates to the Institute’s theme. Applicants should also demonstrate an interest in contributing to the Center’s mission to foster a diversity of perspectives within the University and to engage with the values of Western civilization.

Applications should include the following materials:

  1. A cover letter, setting out both the applicant’s interest in the mission of the Center and the research project to be pursued over the four weeks of the Institute;
  2. A curriculum vitae;
  3. The names and email addresses of three references;
  4. A sample piece of research.
