Bill Roberti

Board Member

Bill Roberti is a Managing Director and Senior Advisor at Alvarez & Marsal. He brings nearly four decades of leadership to corporate, government, and public sector organizations. Mr. Roberti joined A&M in 2002. He built and led the expansion of the firm’s Public Sector practice for more than a decade, applying specialized turnaround techniques in innovative environments to benefit the public good in the U.S. and beyond.

In 2003, Mr. Roberti served as interim superintendent of the St. Louis Public School System where he and a team of A&M interim and crisis managers applied turnaround and restructuring, and crisis management approaches that led to the revitalization of the city’s educational infrastructure. He also served as Chief Restructuring Officer of the Orleans Parish School Board in New Orleans – before, during, and after Hurricane Katrina.

Mr. Roberti led a European bank assignment in the Detroit bankruptcy and served as financial advisor for domestic and international municipalities and governments including the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, the State of Louisiana, and the Government of Guam.

Throughout his career, Mr. Roberti has held numerous board memberships, Chairman, and CEO positions lending his expertise to academia, government, not-for-profit, and retail and apparel sectors. Most notably​​, he served as President and CEO of Brooks Brothers from 1987-1994.

Mr. Roberti served as Chairman of the Board for Centerra Group LLC from 2014-2017, Executive Advisor for the Yale CEO Leadership Institute, and Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Army Distaff Foundation in Washington, D.C.  He serves on the Board of Trustees for Loyola University New Orleans, LA, and non-profit organizations including the USO Board of Governors, Institute for the Study of War Washington, DC, and the Jack Miller Center in Philadelphia, PA.

Mr. Roberti is featured in Firing Back, a widely regarded book on the impact of leadership agility in the wake of corporate crises. He is quoted in Reversing the Slide: A Strategic Guide to Turnarounds, and in the Harvard Education Press-published book, The Redesign of Urban School Systems. Mr. Roberti has also appeared on nationally syndicated television programs including The Jim Lehrer News Hour and has served as a guest lecturer at Yale University, Sacred Heart University, Stamford University, and Baruch College.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from Sacred Heart University where he serves as a Trustee Emeritus, and a master of business administration from Southern Methodist University. Mr. Roberti is a retired Colonel from the U. S. Army Reserve, serving in several senior Army staff positions at the Pentagon. He is also a member in good standing of The Chickasaw Nation, Ada, Oklahoma.
