FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Philadelphia, PA – The Jack Miller Center formally announced the addition of two new members to its Board of Directors: Martha McGeary Snider and Garett Shiner. Celebrating its twentieth year of operations, the JMC is a Philadelphia-based educational nonprofit committed to solving the national crisis of uninformed citizenship by teaching America’s founding principles and history.
“Martha Snider and Garett Shiner each live out a serious commitment to their communities that exemplifies the spirit we need for our experiment in republican self-government to flourish” said JMC board chair Michael Weiser. “I look forward to walking with them on the path to our country’s 250th anniversary and in the years beyond.”
Martha McGeary Snider is a corporate and community advisor who advocates for the important role that culture and civility hold in our society. In 2012, she founded Guildford Consulting Group, LLC to foster innovative approaches to business development; Snider also serves as Director of Organizational Strategy for Source Digital, Inc., a platform that helps organizations turn metadata into “commerce in content.” A native of Pennsylvania, she has played key roles in a number of her home state’s most prominent civic organizations, including roles as the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors and Chairman of the Revolution Society at the Museum of the American Revolution. She is also the Founder and Chief Visionary Officer of We250, a landmark concert to benefit civic education to be held at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on July 2, 2026. A distinguished alumna of Temple University’s Tyler School of Art, Snider was also appointed by Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell to serve as Policy Advisor on Arts and Culture for both of his terms in office, between 2003 through 2011.
Garett Shiner is president of Balashine Properties, a Philadelphia based commercial real estate investment firm, and manager of Millbrook Properties and MB Investment Partners. He has nearly 25 years of experience in the real estate and construction industries. He holds a bachelor’s degree in commerce and engineering from Drexel University, and currently lives in Merion Station, Pennsylvania, with his wife and children. In addition to his position on JMC’s board, Shiner is also a board member of the Drexel Real Estate Advisory Board, DreamMakerz Foundation, Drexel University Hillel, Camp Laurelwood and Adath Israel Synagogue and President of the Drexel Real Estate Alumni Association, as well as an active supporter of numerous local and national charities and non-profit organizations.
“Our Board of Directors is essential to the continued success of our efforts to restore civic education,” said JMC president Hans Zeiger. “Not only do they provide vital advice and mission-driven guidance, they also model the kind of engaged citizenship and informed patriotism we seek to inspire through our programs. I am so pleased to welcome Martha and Garett to our team.”
