Teacher Seminar at LSU – Congress and the President: The Founders’ View

The Eric Voegelin Institute at LSU is hosting a one-day seminar in Baton Rouge for middle and high school social studies teachers, in partnership with the Jack Miller Center.

Louisiana

In this workshop, we will return to original sources—specifically, The Federalist and several Anti-Federalist papers—to consider how those who wrote the Constitution expected those in the offices they established to act. How well did they anticipate the way the elected branches would develop over the course of American history? What can be learned today from their arguments?

Scholar sessions will be led by Professor James Stoner, the Director of LSU’s Eric Voegelin Institute, and Professor Jeremy Mhire of Louisiana Tech University. Jack Miller Center Teacher Education Fellow Danton Kostandarithes will lead a classroom application session focused on incorporating the primary sources discussed into teachers’ own classrooms.

Participants will receive a $200 stipend for completion of the seminar.
