April 18, 2023

On April 18, 1906 the 1906 San Francisco Earthquake took place. Though it lasted no more than a minute, it was one of the deadliest earthquakes in U.S. history, igniting a fire in San Francisco that would last for three days and killing roughly 3,000 people. Over 80% of the city’s buildings were destroyed.

Did you know? The earthquake, rupturing on the San Andreas fault, was felt for hundreds of miles, from Oregon to Los Angeles to Nevada.
