On November 1, 1938, famed American racehorse Seabiscuit outran Triple Crown winner War Admiral in a “match of the century.” 🐎🐎🐎

Small, scrawny, and uncooperative in training, Seabiscuit was an unlikely champion racehorse. The little underdog served as an inspiration to Americans caught up in the Great Depression and an impending world war.

The race was broadcast across the country to rapt attention – President Franklin D. Roosevelt even reportedly paused a meeting to listen to the broadcast.

Did you know? Seabiscuit could be very cranky and stubborn when it came time to train. To alleviate this, his trainer let him sleep late and provided him with a family of animal companions. Pumpkin the pony, Pocatell the stray dog, and a spider monkey named Jo-Jo all helped Seabiscuit relax and were his special animal friends. 🐴🐒🐶
