August 25, 2022

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 25 of August, repeating indefinitely

On August 25, 1916, the United States National Park Service was created to preserve the nation’s important “natural and cultural resources” for its citizens and all future generations of Americans. At the time, there were 35 national parks and monuments in the country, including Yellowstone National Park (the oldest national park, established in 1872).

Today, there are 423 national park sites across the United States and American territories. 🏞🏜🏝

Did you know? The newest national park is the New River Gorge National Park in West Virginia. The park encompasses a gorge formed by one of the oldest rivers on the continent and preserves the beauty and cultural history of the gorge.
