|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 11 of September, repeating indefinitely

On this day in 2001, 9/11, the worst terrorist attack in U.S. history, took place as terrorists hijacked four planes.

Two of these planes were crashed into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City and a third into the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Passengers on the fourth plane, Flight 93, were able to divert the flight from its intended target (still unknown) and crashed in rural Shanksville, PA. A total of 2,977 people were killed in the attacks and 6,000+ injured.

On the twentieth anniversary of 9/11, citizens of every political persuasion and walk of life remember the lives lost that day and the bravery demonstrated by countless ordinary people.
