|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 1 of May, repeating indefinitely

On May 1, 1931, the Empire State Building was dedicated in New York City. The 1,250 foot building stood as the tallest in the world until the 1970s with the construction of the World Trade Center tower. πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

Did you know? The very upper tower of the building was originally intended as a docking station for airships. The idea proved a failure though – high winds made it nearly impossible for airship pilots to navigate a successful tether.

On a clear day, visitors to the observation deck can see five states: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts.

The Empire State Building figures prominently in several American films, including Sleepless in Seattle, King Kong, An Affair to Remember, and Elf.
