On this day in 1913, 37th president Richard Nixon was born in Yorba Linda, California. His presidency, while marked by an end to the draft and American fighting in Vietnam as well as improved relations with China and the Soviet Union, was overshadowed by the Watergate Scandal and ensuing impeachment trial.
Nixon resigned before he could be formally impeached. He is the only U.S. president to resign from office.
Did you know? Third, in his graduating high school class, Nixon had the opportunity to attend Harvard on a scholarship. He had to decline in order to help his family make ends meet as his brother was suffering from tuberculosis.
Nixon and First Lady Pat first met at an amateur theater audition for “The Dark Tower.” They were cast opposite each other as the leads.
