An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 8 of February, repeating indefinitely
On this day in 1910, the Boy Scouts of America was founded by William D. Boyce in Washington, D.C.
Boyce was inspired by the Boy Scouts movement in England after reportedly meeting a scout while lost in the streets of London. After guiding Boyce to his destination, the Boy Scout refused compensation for his good deed, impressing the American.
Early scouting appealed to boys with an emphasis on outdoor survival, navigation, first aid skills, and good deeds. 🌲 ⛺️ 🌳 ⏲ 🔦
Did you know? While several U.S. presidents were Boy Scouts, only one attained the status of Eagle Scout: Gerald Ford. 🦅🦅🦅
There are 100+ scouting badges today, but some have been discontinued over the years, including the Nut Culture badge (for caring for nut trees), the Invention badge (for obtaining a patent), and the Consumer Buying badge (for excellent haggling skills).
