|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 24 of September, repeating indefinitely

On this day in 1896, American author F. Scott Fitzgerald was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. He’s particularly associated with the Roaring ‘20s and his best-known work, The Great Gatsby (1925), which explores materialism, identity, and habits of Jazz Age members of “the Lost Generation.” 🎉 🥂 🍾 🎊

Did you know? The Great Gatsby was a flop upon release, not gaining popularity until the 1940s when it was shipped to U.S. servicemen overseas. Fitzgerald, who died young in 1940, would never witness its success.

Fitzgerald was named for a distant relative, Francis Scott Key, author of the “Star-Spangled Banner.” Key was Fitzgerald’s second cousin three times removed.
