An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 14 of October, repeating indefinitely
On this day in 1890, 34th president Dwight D. Eisenhower was born in Denison, Texas. The Eisenhower administration was defined by Cold War relations, the beginning of desegregation in schools, and the creation of the Interstate Highway program.
Did you know? Eisenhower came into office with a strong military background – as a 5-star general and Supreme Allied Commander during World War II, he is one of the three highest-militarily ranked presidents, alongside George Washington and Ulysses S. Grant.
As his friend and fellow leader Winston Churchill did, Eisenhower took up painting in later years, creating 200+ paintings. 🏞 🎨 🖌 Like many artists, he was critical of his own work, remarking at an exhibit, “They would have burned this [expletive] a long time ago if I weren’t the president of the United States.”
