|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 2 of June, repeating indefinitely

On this day in 1886, President Grover Cleveland wed Frances Folsom at the White House. Although President Cleveland wasn’t the only president to marry while in office, he remains the only president to be married in the White House. 💕 👫🏛️ 💕

Did you know? The marriage was controversial not only because of a large age gap (Cleveland was 49 and Folsom 21), but because Cleveland had served as a guardian for Folsom when her father died. Frances was the youngest First Lady in U.S. history.

She was also only one of two first ladies that remarried after being widowed (the other being Jackie Kennedy Onassis). Neither woman forgot her presidential past however, both opted to be buried with their first husbands.
