An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 27 of June, repeating indefinitely
On this day in 1859, Mildred J. Hill, the composer of “Happy Birthday to You” was born in Louisville, Kentucky. An innovator in education, she wrote: “Good Morning to All” with her sister, Patty. Published in the 1890s, the song was intended for use by teachers to greet their pupils at the beginning of the day. By the 1910s, the tune had been adapted to “Happy Birthday to You” with the famous lyrics we sing today. 🥳 🎂 🥳
Did you know? Hill focused her musical studies on African American music and became an authority on Negro spirituals. She worked to preserve Black-American music and predicted its influence on future American music and culture.
