An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 20 of August, repeating indefinitely

On this day in 1833, 23rd president Benjamin Harrison was born in North Bend, Ohio. He is the only president to have been the grandson of another president (William Henry Harrison).

Harrison’s administration was marked by tariff issues and vigorous foreign policy measures, including the first meeting of the Pan American Congress. The Sherman Antitrust Act, the first federal legislation outlawing monopolistic business practices, was also signed during his presidency.

Did you know? Electricity was first installed in the White House during Harrison’s time there. Though the addition showed innovation on Harrison’s part, the first family wasn’t trusting of the new technology and avoided switching the lights on and off for fear of shocks.
