An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 10 of December, repeating indefinitely

On this day in 1830, American poet Emily Dickinson was born in Amherst, Massachusetts. Reticent during her life, Dickinson’s prolific and touching poetry wasn’t published under her name until after her death. Over her lifetime, she wrote nearly 1,800 poems and has posthumously become one of the most famous poets in American history.

Did you know? During her lifetime, Dickinson was admired for her botanical skills. She grew a large variety of plants, including jasmine, ferns, and carnations, and meticulously pressed and classified flowers into a 66-page booklet (Latin names included). Dickinson’s love for plants often shines through in her poetry. 🌿🌹🌿🌹🌿
