An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 23 of March, repeating indefinitely

On March 23, 1775, Patrick Henry delivered his famous “Give me liberty or give me death!” speech in Richmond, Virginia while arguing for the deployment of Virginia troops in the American Revolution.

Henry’s passionate speech made a strong impression on the Second Virginia Convention, who sat in stunned silence for several minutes afterwards. It had its intended effect however, swaying the convention to vote in favor of delivering Virginia troops to aid in the Revolution.

Did you know? Founding father George Mason remarked of Henry, “Every word he says not only engages but commands the attention and your passions are no longer your own when he addresses them.”

One listener, Edward Carrington, was so moved by the speech that he asked to be buried at the spot. Some years later, he was indeed buried by the window he stood at.
