An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 11 of January, repeating indefinitely

On this day in 1755 or 1757, founding father Alexander Hamilton was born on the island of Nevis in the British West Indies. He was fundamental in securing the ratification of the Constitution and wrote the majority of the 85 Federalist Papers. In the early days of the new U.S. government, Hamilton founded the Treasury Department and the first national bank. Throughout the Revolution and afterward, he was a trusted advisor to George Washington.

Did you know? During Hamilton’s famed duel with Aaron Burr, he used pistols with an already morbid history – they were likely the same pistols used in an earlier duel between Hamilton’s son Philip and George Eacker. That duel had also proved fatal to the Hamilton man involved.

Alexander Hamilton, John Trumbull, 1792
