An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 11 of December, repeating indefinitely

On this day in 1725, founding father George Mason was born in Fairfax County, Virginia. Mason was at the forefront of political activity during the Revolutionary War era and penned the influential Virginia Declaration of Rights. He was also a major proponent of the Bill of Rights.

Mason was one of three delegates that refused to sign the Constitution at the Convention of 1787, in part because of its lack of a bill of rights. Taking it a step further, Mason lobbied against the Constitution’s ratification in his home state of Virginia.

Did you know? Once close collaborators, George Mason and George Washington had a falling out over his opposition to the Constitution.
