An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 25 of September, repeating indefinitely
On this day in 1690, the first American newspaper was published in Boston, Massachusetts, Publick Occurences Both Foreign and Domestick. Prior to this, only single-paged newspapers (called broadsides) had been published in the colonies. The first (and only) issue reported on smallpox, a deadly fire, French-English relations, and Native Americans in the region. 📰 📰 📰
The paper was short-lived – quickly deemed offensive by British authorities, it was shut down a few days later.
