On July 3, 1890, Idaho was admitted into the Union as our 43rd state. A largely rural state with lots of wilderness area, Idaho is known for its potato crop as well as an abundance of gemstones. 72 different types of precious and semi-precious stones are found in the state. ๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿ’Ž๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿ’Ž๐Ÿฅ”๐Ÿ’Ž

Did you know? Western Idaho is home to the deepest river gorge in North America โ€“ Hellโ€™s Canyon is nearly 2,000 feet deeper than the Grand Canyon! ๐Ÿž๐Ÿž๐Ÿž

Whatโ€™s in a name? Idahoโ€™s name origins are uncertain. It has been suggested that it stems from a Native American word for โ€œgem of the mountainsโ€ or โ€œland of many waters.โ€ Mining lobbyist George Willing also claimed to have made the word up.
