On July 17, 1955, Disneyland opened in Anaheim, California. Predating Disney World by 16 years, Disneyland has remained an iconic American theme park and has welcomed over 700 million visitors since its opening. 🥳🏰🎡⛲️🎢
Did you know? The opening itself was considered a disaster by staff, who referred to the day as “Black Sunday.” Counterfeit tickets were widespread and 10,000+ extra guests flooded the park. Some rides were still under construction and paint was still drying on many buildings. Additionally, rides broke down, a riverboat ride sank, and Sleeping Beauty’s Castle nearly went up in flames. 🔥🏰🔥
