An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 1 of October, repeating indefinitely

On October 1, 1832, First Lady Caroline Harrison was born in Oxford, Ohio. As First Lady, Harrison’s philanthropic efforts focused on women’s causes – she notably raised funds for Johns Hopkins medical school on the condition that it admit women.

Caroline also had a love for history, music, dancing, and the arts. A music teacher, she was particularly fond of the piano, but also took great interest in painting and preserving and inventorying historical White House artifacts. 🎹🎨📜

Did you know? Though she handled her duties to the best of her ability, Caroline’s health deteriorated during her husband’s time in office. She was one of only three first ladies to die in the White House.
