On July 25, 1775, First Lady Anna Harrison was born in Morristown, New Jersey. She spent only one month as First Lady, as her husband, William Henry Harrison, died shortly after taking office. She did not attend the inauguration and never even entered the White House.
Though she grew up in the East, even attending a New York City boarding school as a girl, Anna embraced the life of a frontier and military wife with her choice to marry Harrison (the marriage was far from arranged – her father strongly opposed the match).
Did you know? Though she did not live to see it, she is the only woman to be both wife and grandmother to a president.
