An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 17 of February, repeating indefinitely

On February 17, 1913, the famed 1913 Armory Show opened in New York City. The show was the first large exhibition of modern art in America and is notable in art history for introducing several experimental movements, such as Cubism and Fauvism, to Americans.

Did you know? The Armory Show may be best-remembered for works such as Duchamp’s Cubist Nude Descending a Staircase (pictured above) or Matisse’s Fauvist pieces, but the show also featured leading impressionists like Mary Cassatt, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Vincent Van Gogh. In fact, the Armory Show was the first American exhibition of Van Gogh’s work – many patrons were seeing his work for the first time.
