July is National Blueberry Month! 🫐🫐🫐

As Americans everywhere add these little fruits to their Fourth of July picnics and flag cakes πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ«πŸ°, enjoy some American history related to the blueberry:

Blueberries are native to the Americas, particularly North America, and are believed to have been the first edible fruit plants discovered after the last ice age. Thanks to the star pattern on the tip of every blueberry, they were known as β€œstar berries” by many Native American tribes. 🌟🌟🌟

Did you know? Much as we enjoy blueberries mixed into granola and yogurt, Native Americans and early colonists enjoyed sautauthig – a simple pudding of corn, blueberries, and water that was likely served at the first Thanksgiving. πŸŒ½πŸ«πŸ’§

Today, the United States is still the top producer of blueberries. The fruit is truly national in scope, with top growing states including Washington, Florida, Michigan, Texas, and New Jersey.
