On this day – Montana became our 41st State

November 8

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 8 of November, repeating indefinitely

On November 8, 1889, Montana joined the Union as our 41st state.

Did you know? Montana sits on the Continental Divide and contains a mountain peak which diverts water to three different watersheds. From Glacier National Park’s Triple Divide Peak, rainfall can flow to either the Atlantic, the Pacific, or Hudson Bay (which may be considered a sea of the Arctic Ocean).

What’s in a name? “Montana” comes from the Spanish word “moñtana” which means “mountainous.” Montana encompasses portions of both the Rocky Mountains and the Great Plains.
