August 10, 2022

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 10 of August, repeating indefinitely

On August 10, 1821, Missouri was admitted to the Union as our 24th state.

Missouri is home to the tallest manmade monument in the United States. What is it? The Gateway Arch in St. Louis! The arch marks the city’s role as a gateway to the western United States. Missouri was also home to the starting points for three important routes west: the Oregon Trail, the Pony Express, and the Santa Fe Trail.

What’s in a name? Missouri is named for a Native American tribe of the same name. The word means something akin to “wooden canoe people.”
