|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 12 of June, repeating indefinitely

On June 12, 1944, Big Bend National Park was established along the Rio Grande River in Texas. In fact, the park is named after the “big bend” of the river that serves as an international border with Mexico. 🏞🌅🏜

Did you know? Aside from its breathtaking desert landscape and amazing biological diversity, the park is home to prehistoric geological wonders such as sea fossils and dinosaur bones. 🐠🦖🦴

The park also contains the southernmost mountain range in the United States – the Chisos Mountains. Formed millions of years ago by volcanic activity, it is the only range to be completely contained within a national park. ⛰⛰⛰
