An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 4 of July, repeating indefinitely
On July 4, 1804, American author Nathaniel Hawthorne was born in Salem, Massachusetts. Hawthorne’s writing was particularly inspired by the Puritan history of his native Massachusetts and dealt with questions of morality, psychology, and romance. His most famous works include The Scarlet Letter 🅰️, The House of the Seven Gables 🏘🎃, and “The Birthmark.” 😨
Did you know? “Hawthorne” was originally “Hathorne” – some believe that the author modified his last name to distance himself from an infamous ancestor, John Hathorne, a leading judge in the Salem Witch Trials.
On the other side of his family tree, Hawthorne’s daughter, Rose, has become well-known for a very different reason – she has been nominated for canonization as a saint.
