The Tocqueville Lecture Series at Jacksonville State University, a JMC partner program, held a virtual presentation and Q&A with Lucy Williams:
The Tocqueville Lecture Series is excited to host Dr. Lucy Williams (BYU). Her presentation, “Civil Rights Exceptionalism” examines how the Supreme Court engages and uses the rhetoric of American exceptionalism in its civil rights cases.

Lucy Williams is an Associate Professor of Law at Brigham Young University. She earned her Ph.D. in political science and J.D. from the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Williams has served as a law clerk for the Honorable Scott M. Matheson, Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. In addition she has publications concerning the thought of Frederick Douglas and the use of eulogies in politics. Her research focuses on American exceptionalism, legal and political rhetoric, law and philosophy, the First Amendment, and American political thought.
