Happy Valentine’s Day!

February 14, 2022

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 14 of February, repeating indefinitely

Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤️❤️❤️

Though this holiday has origins in the Roman fertility festival of Lupercalia and as a Christian feast day, it wasn’t until the 17th and 18th centuries that it became popular to mark the day by exchanging notes and tokens of affection with friends and lovers. 💋💝🥂💐

Did you know? Handmade cards were the norm up until the mid-1800s, when mass-produced valentines first appeared. Massachusetts native and astute businesswoman Esther Howland is considered the “Mother of the American Valentine.” 💌💌💌

In the 1840s she started a wildly successful business, creating and selling valentines to Americans across the country. She and her crew of women workers made affordable but beautiful valentines with lace, colorful illustrations, and glitter (a novelty for the time).
