Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Irish-Americans (and not so Irish Americans) across the country celebrate Irish heritage today with parades, corned beef and cabbage, and festive green attire. The holiday, traditionally a celebration of Ireland’s patron saint, has been marked in North America for hundreds of years.

The first St. Patrick’s Day parade took place in St. Augustine, Florida, way back in 1601. Prior to the Revolutionary War, Irish soldiers in the British army honored the day as well, marching in their own parade in New York City in 1772.

Did you know? Over 31.5 million Americans claim Irish descent and half of U.S. presidents have some Irish heritage.
