Happy National Bird Day!

January 5, 2023

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 5 of January, repeating indefinitely

One of the most famous (and rare) books of American birds is John J. Audubon’s Birds of America. Printed as a subscription from 1827 to 1838, the book contains over 400 watercolor illustrations of North American birds that are still studied and admired today.

Did you know? Audubon was likely the first person in North America to track birds by banding their legs. With the help of colored thread, he noted that some Eastern phoebes returned to the same nesting spot a year later.
