George Washington born in Westmoreland County, Virginia
February 22, 2025
An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 22 of February, repeating indefinitely
On this day in 1732, founding father and our 1st president George Washington was born in Westmoreland County, Virginia. Aside from serving two terms as our first president, Washington was Commander in Chief of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War. Uniquely, he was in a position of steering the emerging nation to success not only with political prowess, but through military strategy.
Washington also set precedents for presidential power that have endured to the present and showed restraint in limiting the power of the office.
Did you know? Some Americans celebrate Washington’s birthday by eating cherry pie. The tradition comes from the story of a young Washington chopping down a cherry tree and coming clean about the crime to his father. Though the story is purely myth, the tradition is still delicious. 🍒🥧🍒🥧🍒
