An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 4 of October, repeating indefinitely

On October 4, 1810, First Lady Eliza Johnson was born in Telford, Tennessee. Though she did not enjoy public life, Eliza is often credited with being a crucial support to her husband’s tumultuous political career.

When the two were first married, she famously gave him further instruction in reading and writing. An avid reader as First Lady, she read national newspapers and political journals to help Andrew Johnson prepare his speeches. And, during his controversial impeachment trial, she never wavered in support.
