|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 1 of August, repeating indefinitely

On August 1, 1876, Colorado was admitted to the Union as our 38th state. The date is reflected in its nickname, โ€œThe Centennial State,โ€ which refers to the 100th anniversary of American independence. ๐ŸŽŠ๐ŸŽ†๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

With a beautiful landscape dominated by the Rocky Mountains, Colorado is home to 75% (!) of all U.S. land 10,000+ feet above sea level and contains the highest paved road in the country. Visitors to the state capital in Denver will find themselves an entire mile above sea level. ๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ”๐Ÿ”

Did you know? โ€œAmerica the Beautifulโ€ was written during a trip to Colorado. Katharine Lee Bates was inspired to write the patriotic song after traveling to the top of Pikeโ€™s Peak.

Whatโ€™s in a name? โ€œColoradoโ€ comes from the Spanish for โ€œruddyโ€ or โ€œred-coloredโ€ and likely refers to the red sandstone of the region. โค๏ธโค๏ธโค๏ธ
