|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 19 of April, repeating indefinitely

On April 19, 1721, statesman and founding father Roger Sherman was born in Newton, Massachusetts. A representative from Connecticut, Sherman is the only person to have signed all four of the major Founding era documents: the Articles of Association, the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the U.S. Constitution. 📜📃📜📃

During the Constitutional Convention, Sherman was a major influence in deciding representation, constructing the Connecticut Compromise (which called for a bicameral legislature with House representation based on population and Senate representation based on an equal number of senators from each state).

Did you know? John Adams found Sherman an awkward and ungraceful speaker, but much admired his friend as “one of the most sensible men in the world,” with “the clearest head and steadiest heart.” 💡❤️
