An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 28 of April, repeating indefinitely

On this day in 1758, 5th president James Monroe was born in Monroe Hall, Virginia. Though he’s often less remembered than fellow founding fathers Madison, Jefferson, or Washington, Monroe was a popular and accomplished president.

In particular, he is distinguished for running for reelection unopposed (the only other president to do so was George Washington) and his presidency was marked by general national success and growth, an “Era of Good Feelings.” 🎉 🎉 🎉 Even with an economic downturn at the end of his first term, Monroe retained public favor.

Did you know? By the end of his presidency, Monroe had served our country for 50 years, holding more elected public offices than any president before or after him. Like John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, he passed away on our nation’s birthday, July 4.
