Predoctoral Research Specialist in PCD & Postdoctoral Research Associate in PCD

 

Predoctoral Research Specialist

The Program on Constitutionalism and Democracy (PCD) in the Department of Politics at the University of Virginia invites applications for one-year predoctoral Research Specialist positions (with limited teaching), with an anticipated start date of August 25, 2018 and ending August 24, 2019. This end date may be extended, based on performance and continued availability of funding, through May 24, 2020. Pay is competitive, and benefits are available. PCD is directed by Professors James W. Ceaser and Rita Koganzon. It promotes scholarship and undergraduate teaching that is informed by political theory and that focuses on the American political tradition.

Responsibilities and Duties

Research specialists will conduct their own research and teach one undergraduate course per semester, either “The American Political Tradition” (PLAP 2250) or “American Political Economy” (PLAP 3500). Research specialists at their discretion may request to teach a second course in one of the semesters.

Research specialists will be responsible for completing their dissertation, using the methods and techniques appropriate to their project. Research specialists will also be tasked with teaching one or both of the two courses mentioned, which will require as background a concentration in political theory and/or an approach to American politics focusing on American political thought and American political development.

Qualifications

Applicants for the research specialist position must be on schedule to acquire the status of ABD by June 30, 2018 with a planned completion of PhD by May 24, 2019.

Postdoctoral Research Associate

This research associate position is renewable, based on performance and continued availability of funding, for an additional academic year. Pay is competitive, and benefits are available. PCD is directed by Professors James W. Ceaser and Rita Koganzon. It promotes scholarship and undergraduate teaching that is informed by political theory and that focuses on the American political tradition.

Responsibilities and Duties

Research associates will conduct their own research and teach one undergraduate course per semester, either “The American Political Tradition” (PLAP 2250) or “American Political Economy” (PLAP 3500). Fellows at their discretion may request to teach a second course in one of the semesters.

Qualificatoins

Applicants for the research associate position must have achieved the status of ABD by February 10, 2018 and must be on track to complete a PhD by June 2018. All requirements for the Ph.D., including a successful defense, must be completed by June 20, 2018.
