Position Overview:

The Teacher Programs Manager will oversee the expansion of Jack Miller Center programming for K-12 educators in Wisconsin/Illinois under the direction of the Vice President of Civics Initiatives. The Manager will be responsible for working with JMC partner professors to develop, implement, and execute programs for teachers that deepen their understanding of America’s founding principles and help them apply their learning to their curriculum. In addition, the Manager will contribute to the development of JMC curricular materials and resources for teachers available on JMC’s website.

Office Location:

The JMC office is located in Bala Cynwyd, PA, but this is a remote position for someone based in Wisconsin or Illinois.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Job Duties:

  1. Execute JMC professional development programs for K-12 educators, whether independently or in partnership with JMC partner professors (programs feature discussion of primary source texts from the American political tradition, as well as application workshops focused on curriculum development, particularly for history and civics courses grades 6-12)
  2. Create new models of professional development programming for educators
  3. Build ongoing collaborative relationships with teacher participants
  4. Build relationships with educators, school administrators, and non-profit professionals to promote JMC programming
  5. Oversee occasional data collection with third-party research firms for measurement of program outcomes
  6. Develop curricular materials and resources for teachers available on JMC’s website, including lesson plans on the topics featured on JMC’s Founding Civics website, annotated and excerpted primary source selections, and links to valuable external resources

Skills/Requirements:

  1. Strong commitment to the mission of the Jack Miller Center
  2. Master’s degree or Ph.D. in field relevant to Jack Miller Center mission
  3. Ability to travel multiple days per month as needed and up to 15 days total during the summer
  4. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  5. Strong interpersonal skills with an enthusiasm for network-building
  6. Self-motivated; an ability to work independently is essential
  7. Detail-oriented, strong time-management skills and ability to prioritize work
  8. Collaborative team-player with the ability to successfully engage with colleagues across the organization
  9. Ability to interact professionally with professors, donors, and other individuals involved in our efforts
  10. Flexibility and adaptability with job requirements and workflow
  11. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
