About The Jack Miller Center

The Jack Miller Center (JMC) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to a single purpose: strengthening the teaching of Americas Founding principles and its history in our educational system, from K-12 through college.

Starting in 2004, we have built a growing and active network of more than 1,000 dedicated professors on over 300 college campuses around the country. Collectively they have taught over 1,200,000 students.

Up-and-coming scholars join our network primarily through our summer institutes, which focus on academic career development and a deep study of the principles and ideals of the Founding that have sustained this country for almost 250 years. We continue to support these scholars in various ways throughout their careers. Our goal is to recruit more dedicated and competent scholars into our network every year, foster their teaching careers and help increase the impact of their work, and to expand our reach to more campuses across the country in the process.

We launched our K-12 teacher education program in 2016, and it is one of our most rapidly expanding efforts. We now have growing regional initiatives in five states and support individual teacher education programs with partner professors in other regions. We will be launching another statewide initiative in 2022.

Our goal is the rebuilding of a true civic education throughout our country. That means teaching America’s history and founding principles in a non-partisan and unbiased manner based on our founding documents and primary sources. Young citizens will learn about the Declaration of Independence and both our achievements and our failures in realizing its revolutionary vision—that all men are created equal” and thereby entitled to the same fundamental rights and opportunities. That is the centerpiece of our mission.

About the President Position

We have achieved much in these past 17 start-up years. But there is so much more to we can do, and these highly partisan times call for a rapid expansion of our efforts at both the K-12 and college levels. We truly believe that the battle for the soul of our nation will be won or lost in our classrooms.

In accordance with our strategic plan, we are aiming to increase the size of our annual budget to $15 million over the next five years in order to expand our reach nationwide and achieve our programmatic goals.

To that end, we are seeking a strong leader who is committed to this vision and to raising awareness and support of our work. This leader must be the public face of the organization, helping to make JMC the recognized leader in the field as well as attracting the donors needed to achieve our goals. This leader must also have a visionary, entrepreneurial approach and will work to both expand our efforts and inspire the efforts of a well-functioning and growing JMC organization of 19.

The Jack Miller Center’s team of dedicated professionals are headquartered in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia.

The President will directly manage two vice presidents and work closely with four department heads.

The President will work from JMC’s office in Bala Cynwyd. This is not a remote opportunity.

Responsibilities

 

  1. Implement the Jack Miller Center’s strategic plan
  2. Serve as a distinguished ambassador for the Jack Miller Center
  3. Network and collaborate in an effort to strengthen JMC’s visibility and influence
  4. Cultivate financial support for the organization with an eye to reaching JMC’s ambitious fundraising and impact goals
  5. Ensure sound and compliant financial management and fundraising practices
  6. Inform and support the Board and the board committees to carry out their governance functions
  7. Partner with the Chair of the Board to help ensure the Board’s directives are carried out
  8. Provide day-to-day leadership and management of the organization; inspire staff and allies

Requirements

 

  1. 10+ years of experience, including significant management and leadership experience
  2. Ability to engage and persuade donors; previous fundraising experience preferred
  3. Visionary/entrepreneur mindset; continually seeking more and better ways to achieve goals and make JMC a leader in the field
  4. Demonstrated passion for JMC’s mission and ability to articulate the mission to new audiences
  5. Excellent communication and public-speaking skills; interest in serving as the public face of JMC
  6. Strong relationship building and networking skills
  7. History of publishing articles in popular news outlets a plus
  8. Experience in the education world a plus; knowledge of relevant players and allies preferred
  9. Ability to travel 25-30% of the time
