IHS Funding Opportunities for Faculty and PhD Students:

The Humane Studies Fellowship helps pay for your PhD. Applications now open.
The Humane Studies Fellowship is a renewable, non-residency award of up to $15,000 per year to support current or future students enrolled in full-time PhD programs. Students interested in developing, teaching, and applying classical liberal ideas and the principles of a free society are encouraged to apply.  Past recipients are eligible to apply.  Students may apply even if they have not yet been accepted into a PhD program.

Need a Research Assistant? The Hayek Fund can help pay for it
Ranging from conference travel expenses and manuscript submission fees to research assistance and purchasing data sets, the Hayek Fund for Scholars is designed to support faculty and graduate students in covering costs associated with research and career advancement. Past recipients are eligible to apply.

Looking to take a sabbatical next year? Apply for funding by March 1st
IHS awards individual faculty members $42,000 in funding for semester-long sabbaticals. Faculty looking to conduct research on classical liberal ideas such as free markets, individual rights, private property, and much more are encouraged to apply. Sabbaticals to be taken during the 2018–2020 academic years. Apply today for the IHS Sabbatical Research Fellowship.

Interested in developing curriculum on free speech and toleration or hosting a debate on campus?
Faculty can receive $5,000–$25,000 to facilitate on-campus programs, curriculum development, or research on the past, present, and future of free speech through the IHS Grant for Free Speech and Open Inquiry.

Using Novel Data to Examine the Impact of Government Policies

Join IHS and the Mercatus Center at George Mason University as economists, political scientists, and policy experts begin to answer longstanding economic questions regarding the effects of state, federal, and international regulations using novel datasets. Participants will learn about new empirical developments in research on occupational licensing, new research and opportunities to investigate how state and federal regulations affect productivity, and how trade agreements and other international rules affect trade and the economic health of different countries. This seminar precedes the Public Choice Society (PCS) Annual Meeting, and travel stipends are available to help offset the cost of attendance. Apply online.

Frontiers in Permissionless Innovation

IHS and the Center for Growth and Opportunity at Utah State University will host a full-day seminar preceding the Association of Private Enterprise Education (APEE) Annual Meeting to explore some of the policy barriers innovators experience when creating and distributing new technology. Participants will hear from keynote speaker, Adam Thierer from the Mercatus Center at George Mason University, as well as panelists whose focuses range from emerging technology in the healthcare industry, distributed technology and their applications, and the future of energy.
