National Waffle Day!

August 24

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 24 of August, repeating indefinitely

August 24 is National Waffle Day! 🧇🧇🧇

Did you know that Americans have been enjoying waffles for some 400 years? Dutch Americans in New Amsterdam (later New York) and the Mid-Atlantic brought waffles with them from Europe.

Thought they have European roots, Americans have made waffles distinctly our own – both maple syrup (a North American discovery) and fried chicken were first paired with waffles in America. 🍗🧇🍯

Waffles are formed using some sort of iron – in colonial days, this often consisted of a hinged cast-iron device that could be used over an open fire. It wasn’t until August 24, 1869 that the first patent for a stovetop waffle iron was issued in Troy, New York.
