Establishment of the Civilian Conservation Corps

April 5, 2023

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every year that begins at 12:00 am on day 5 of April, repeating indefinitely

On this day in 1933, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was established to organize young, unemployed American men to work on America’s parks and forests. In addition to providing jobs for the unemployed, the program led to a greater appreciation and awareness of America’s wilderness.

Did you know that over the course of its nine-year existence, the men of the CCC were responsible for over 50% of reforestation, both public and private, done in our nation’s history? They planted over 3 billion trees and constructed countless trails and shelters in parks across the nation, many of which still exist today. 🌲🌳🌲
